»Exactly - I have to dig to find it and the web landing page for BizCare is not user friendly. I have to know which links I need or just click on all of them. It would be much easier if there were a map to follow, step 1 do this, step 2 do this. Maybe for those who understand it fully, that seems simplistic, but the learning curve for new business owners is steep.
»BizCare actually provides most of the services your suggesting. Click on the Business tab at the top of KCMO.org and BizCare can be found there. I would agree though that BizCare should be on the front page. Maybe a tab next to the Business tab near the top would be a good suggestion.
»Staffing is a problem, but it seems to me that it's been that way long before $ was ever a real issue. Nobody is happy with things as they are, and I believe it's time to start thinking and working outside the box. How hard would it be to train volunteers to help out with the job? Neighborhoods are sick of feeling helpless when leash laws are flouted and animals are harmed because of it. Animal abuse situations exist across the city but can't fully be addressed unless someone from Animal Control sees it (good luck with that!). It's clear that problems such as these will never be resolved until individuals within the various communities are empowered to properly and respectfully address these concerns.
»Yes, the painted crosswalks look great when brand new, but are they on a cycle to be maintained? Agree w/Korey S - need to be context-sensitive. Good to see the ADA-compliant facilities - need to work on systematically upgrading these city-wide, starting with densely populated areas with large volumes of pedestrians - especially those with disabilities.

»If a weed notice is not complied with, the City will have the cutting and/or removal done in three days following the five day notice deadline. The owner will be billed for all costs associated with this cutting.
»I love this idea, but I'm afraid it won't work. I think they did something like this at Union Station and has been met with dismal success. It's not Worlds of Fun and kids don't want education. I would love to do it, and I suppose it could be part of a tourist package, but I just don't think it would work. I would love to meet Tom Pendergast and his cronies, but do we really want Kansas City associated with criminals? Jazz, sure or barbeque or the stock yards, or fur trading or many other things that Kansas City is known for, but crime? Yes, there has been crime and the Kansas City Massacre is on record in the FBI files, but we don't have any of the big names of crime, like Al Capone or Bonnie and Clyde. Pretty Boy Floyd was small time.
»While I agree with this in principle, getting property inspectors to the property within 3 days may be a little unrealistic. I can see a week, minimum to respond. I also think inspectors should be given a little bit more power on how they make inspections. I've lived next to two junk heaps for many years. I have reported each of them numerous times, but still nothing has been done. I even have video of one of them burying trash in his backyard with a backhoe! Both of these neighbors have trash and such in their backyards, which I'm told over and over again that the inspector can't enter their yards without permission. But nothing has been done. I just found out about the volunteer inspection program, but even with that, it's the enforcement that needs to be upped which would reduce overall the number of properties that have to inspect.
»I have seen way too many people throw stuff out of their windows of their cars right in front of me. It's times like those that I wish I could take a picture of them doing it with their license plate and send it to someone for enforcement. Sure, it screams of Big Brother, but Kansas City is a nice place and I don't want it turned into a trash heap.
»I second this idea because there have been times when I've called animal control and I have never seen anyone show up. We continuously have dogs roaming out neighborhood and it is a concern for those of us who follow the rules and keep our animals in a fenced yard or on leashes. I think we need more animal control officers, or possibly make the police or fire department, with the proper training, respond to animal control calls.

»I would agree with your idea in principle. However, I think that the timeline is a little unrealistic. 180 days, 6 months, is not a very long period of time and if someone is trying to sell the property, it could stay vacant for that long or longer. The realtor should keep the property up while it's trying to be sold, but some buildings just will take longer than that to sell. The rest of your idea I agree with.
»I agree with this. Also, you could put them in touch with their neighborhood associations which usually have some people who might even help out if needed. Most neighborhoods in Kansas City have some type of group representing them now. Writing up someone for paint in winter is wrong, I agree, because the homeowner can't do anything about it and it would be seen as an attempt to simply collect fine money.

    More travelers use Greyhound, Megabus, and Jefferson Lines daily than all of the Amtrak trains that currently serve Union Station. Moving the two providers from the Greyhound station at 12th & Troost to a more obvious location at Union Station would boost foot traffic for the station's struggling retail.

    Almost every American city has discovered "intermodalism" (Fort Worth, Dallas, Denver, LA, St. Louis, Milwaukee) and this becomes even more useful as we add more modes (streetcar, commuter rail, bike lanes).

    Metro residents unanimously agree that Union Station should be *the* transportation hub for the region.
